Zhang Yan, director of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings' China unit, was invited to lecture on Construction of ‘Double First Class’ University: An Insight In to QS World University Rankings by Subject. JNU President Song Xianzhong, Deputy President Hong An and Deputy President Zhang Hong attended.
Zhang Yan explained how QS ranks universities by subjects and its index system. He gave suggestions for the construction of a Double First Class and high-level university by focusing on JNU's discipline construction, cultivation and introduction of talents, scientific research, social services and other aspects. He especially pointed out that in 2018 JNU has made a major breakthrough in the average cited frequency of papers among the QS Asia University Ranking, up by 104 from 200th place in 2017 to 116th. However, he said, JNU still has a long way to go in enhancing the graduates’ employability performance and increasing the teacher-student ratio.
Song said Zhang's report was instructive advancing JNU's Double First Class project. He said he hoped JNU departments could attach great importance to the problems reflected from the rankings and take effective measures to raise their discipline construction levels.
