Lu Xin, a professor in the JNU's computer department, was re-elected a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC). This year is her sixth time attending the meeting in the Great Hall of the People.
This year begins the implementation of the spirit of the Communist Party of China's 19th National Congress and the first historic year when socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. Thus, this year's NPC is of special political and historical significance.

At the conference, Lu put forward four proposals:Several Suggestions on Budget Performance Evaluation of Innovation-Oriented Government; Several Suggestions on the Reform of Personal Income Tax; Suggestions on Optimizing the Export Tax Rebate System of the Battery Industry of New-Energy Vehicles and Advancing Foreign Trade in Battery Materials and Suggestions on the Research and Application of Raman Spectroscopy for Early Lung Cancer Screening. They were highly targeted and practical, focusing on hot issues concerning economy and the people’s well-being.

As an expert and an academic, Lu emphasized that she pays more attention to improving her performance of her duties through professional research. After last year's NPC and CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), Lu established new research with her postgraduate students. She eventually converted her results into the two proposals on budget performance evaluation and reform of personal income tax.

Lu continues to remind herself that NPC deputy is not an honorary title, but a political post. Deputy to the NPC is an important bridge between the Party, the country and the masses of Chinese people, she said. A deputy to the NPC must be good at perceiving the people's living conditions and listening to their voices. Of course, we must also interpret the country’s major political principles to the people.

College students in China bear the responsibility to understand, grasp and even respond to China's major events in the social and political fields, she added. They are expected to find their places in the development of the country, and to realize the values of their own lives. Lu also hopes today's college students can take the initiative to focus on national affairs and devote themselves to China's reform and development.
