The Challenge Cup National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Works -- Challenge Cup for short -- is known as the Olympics for Chinese college students in science and technology. This year, the 15th national-level Challenge Cup was held in Shanghai in November, and all six of JNU's entries (the most each university is allowed) were awarded. JNU, which again set a new record in the Challenge Cup, ranked 2nd among universities in Guangdong and 28th in China. As one of the co-organizer, JNU has had over 1,800 approved projects for the Challenge Cup, more than 10,000 participants and nearly 6 million sponsorships since 2011.
Teachers and students see the Challenge Cup, in which many JNU students actively participate, as an indispensable academic compulsory class, creating a strong atmosphere of academic science and technology in campuses.

Cheng Pinxing, JNU's Youth League Committee secretary said, the university allocates a special fund annually to support the Challenge Cup project. As the quantity and quality of projects have increased, the fund has ranged from 1.5 million to 2 million RMB. Before 2011, the fund was 200,000 RMB a year.
In June, 2012, JNU formulated Provisional Measures of JNU for Administration of Student Curricular Academic and Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship Activities such as the Challenge Cup, in which organized institution, competition identification, application for project approval, funding appraisal and awards are clearly regulated. Since then, the Challenge Cup has become the strictest competition in its field because it has adopted school, provincial and national levels with preliminary competitions, semi-finals and finals.

JNU's first student science and technology innovation training camp opened on May 27, another idea of the university's Communist Youth League in cultivating top-notch innovative talents. This year the training camp will recruit 50 to 100 students with potential talent for academic research on campus. The training camp will combine theoretical study, experiential learning, project study and supervisors' assistance to train them systemically for one year.
