Six professors from Jinan University have been selected for the Suggested List of the 2017 Changjiang Scholars Program, released by the Ministry of Education on Jan. 5. Prof. Ding Ke of the College of Pharmacy was suggested as a Changjiang Scholars. Suggested as Changjiang Young Scholars were Prof. Gao Hao and Prof. Cai Qian of the College of Pharmacy; Prof. Ju Hailong of the School of International Studies Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies; Prof. Li Yunfei of the College of Liberal Arts, and Prof. Liu Tao of the College of Journalism and Communication. The number of JNU professors listed ranks 20th nationwide and second in Guangdong. All six professors were chosen as candidates of the Jinan Double Hundred Talents Plan to introduced high-level talents with international competitiveness.

The announcement recommended 463 scholars for the Changjiang Scholars Program 2017, including 148 distinguished professors, 51 visiting professors and 264 young scholars. A total of 31 scholars from Guangdong universities are on the recommendation list, including 9 Changjiang Scholars who are distinguished professors and 22 young scholars.

Started in 1998, the Changjiang Scholars Program is a specific high-level personnel program financed by the Ministry of Education and the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Hong Kong. After 20 years, the program has become an indispensable component of China's Major Talent Program, bestowing three awards: Distinguished Professors, Visiting Professors and Young Scholars. At present, Distinguished Professors are awarded 1 million RMB, paid within five years; Young Scholars are awarded 300,000 RMB, paid within three years; and Visiting Professors are awarded 30,000 RMB a month, paid according to their actual working hours.
