Nineteen more JNU projects were funded when the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) recently announced evaluation results of multi-class projects in the non-centralized acceptance period. After the mid-August publication of the projects in the centralized acceptance period, the total number of JNU's projects ranked fifth in Guangdong for 2017, with 242 projects that year.
The most recently approved projects include two key supporting programs, four training programs of the Major Research Plan, one key program of the NSFC-Guangdong Collaborative Foundation, one key program of the NSFC-China General Technology Collaborative Foundation, one joint research program of the NSFC-Japan Science and Technology Agency, one project of the Foreign Young Scholars Research Foundation and nine emergency management projects.

JNU submitted 925 project applications for NSFC funding in 2017, and 242 of them were approved, raising the funding rate to 26.71%, compared with the nation level of 22.59% and increasing the number of project founded by 55.12% over the same period last year. JNU has been directly approved for a total of 104,42 million in funding, increasing 37.26% over last year. JNU's ranking in supported projects in the centralized acceptance period rose from 53rd last year to 32nd in China. These projects included 127 supported by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, ranking 18th in China; 87 in the General Program; one in the Key Program; two supported by the Funds for International Cooperation and Exchange of the National Natural Science Foundation; two supported by the Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao Young Scholars; and four Supported by National Natural Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars.
JNU has had 10 national projects projects in 2017, its most in a single year.
