JNU signed the agreement of quality certification of international students' education at institutions of higher learning in China in October 2016, marking JNU’s formal participation in the second certification program. Later, JNU carried out self-assessment on international students’education, with about 20 departments and colleges participating and submitting self-assessment reports in early April 2017.

A panel of experts inspected JNU at the beginning of July, with CEALE Secretary General Sheng Xuejian heading the group and Wang Yong, deputy minister of Peking University's Office of International Relations, as the group leader. They appraised international students' studies at JNU, and provided opinions deeply clarifying the medium- and long-term educational development plan for international students' education in China. The experts also suggested that JNU expand the scale and optimize the structure of international students; strengthen the construction of their information management system; and enhance their education in psychological health.
This year JNU has 4,063 international students from 125 countries and regions around the world. Indonesia has been the largest source of these students in JNU for many years. Other top-ranked countries include Thailand, India, Korea, Yemen and Russia.
JNU's management of international students features enlarging foreign affairs and managing homogeneously. School-level groups for leading and managing overseas students effectively connect with related departments and colleges.
JNU increasingly attracts international students with its strength in the discipline of overseas Chinese education and comprehensive construction of the International School in teaching only in English. In addition, JNU creates a good learning and living environment for international students by actively hosting colorful cross-cultural communication activities and building itself into a university where diverse cultures coexist harmoniously.
