The opening and unveiling ceremony for the Zhaoqing-Jinan University Eco-Development Research Institute was held on Dec. 7 in the Maker(people who do not aim for profit, but for turning the innovative ideas into reality)Business Center in Zhaoqing New Area, Zhaoqing City. Leaders launching the Institute included JNU Vice President Hong An; Ou Shiyi, director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development; Lin Man, deputy director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development; Cheng Buyi, Municipal Committee member and Organization Department minister of Zhaoqing City; Liang Weiqiang, vice president of the Zhaoqing Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; and Chen Yuhang, secretary of Dinghu District. Presiding over the ceremony was Prof. Hu Xiaonong, president of the institute and specially-invited expert of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Hong said JNU would fully use its advantageous resources to guarantee high-level faculty and scientific achievements and support the institute's construction. Hong made three requests: that the institute adhere to its goal orientation and question orientation in a unified way to become a new research-and-development institution with distinctive characteristics; that it be a new platform for government, universities, enterprises, finance and markets and a new window for industry-university-research cooperation and achievement transformation; and that it to become a new area to gather and nurture talents.

Cheng said Dinghu District residents would endeavor to offer the best and most convenient service for the program; deepen exchange and cooperation with JNU; and combine JNU's advanced ecological scientific research technology with the natural ecological and industrial advantages of Zhaoqing City and Dinghu District to reach mutual benefits and development.

Hu invited the leaders and guests to visit the institute’s office and laboratory after the opening ceremony.
