Y.K. Sailas Thangal, India's consul general in Guangzhou, and P. V. Manoj, consul in charge of press and information culture, visited JNU on Nov. 24, meeting with President Hu Jun. They acquired deep knowledge of JNU and invited JNU scholars to India.
Hu updated them on JNU's development and its cooperation with India. He said JNU would constantly strive for first-class disciplines and construction as a world-class university. He expressed his hope that Thangal could provide more opportunities for JNU to communicate with Indian universities and to enhance cultural and educational exchanges between China and India.
Thangal highly praised JNU's rapid development and its achievements in promoting mutual understanding between China and India. He said exchanging information is the foundation for friendly Sino-India contact, and he hoped that JNU leaders could send JNU scholars and think tanks to Indian think tanks and universities to enhance mutual understanding.
JNU and Jawaharlal Nehru University have been sister schools since 2003, and JNU established the Comparative Research Institute of China and India in December 2008, which has built a good platform for cultural research and communication between China and India.
