Five projects from JNU have been authorized as annual major projects of 2017 National Social Science Fund. Together with the three major projects approved earlier, a total of eight major projects of National Social Science Fund have been approved in 2017, repeating JNU's record in 2016.

The five newly approved projects are JNU President Hu Jun's Research on the Model and Route of Industrial Transfer Between China and Countries along the Belt and Road Under the Symbiosis Theory (Item No.:17ZDA047); Prof. Zhu Yikun's Research on Major Legal Issues in Rights Protection of Overseas Chinese (Item No.:17ZDA143); Research on the Construction of Cross-Border E-Commerce Under International Law and Domestic Law (Item No.: 17ZDA141) by Prof. Liu Ying of the Law School; Construction and Application of Chinese Etymology Theory (Item No. 17ZDA298) by Prof. Zeng Zhaocong of the College of Liberal Arts; and Methods and Applications of Visual Rhetoric (Item No.: 17ZDA290) by Prof. Liu Tao of the School of Journalism and Communication.

The National Social Science Fund approved a total of 331 major projects at 136 units nationwide. JNU submitted 12, with 5 were approved, for a rate was 41.67% and a 15th-place ranking.

The leaders of three major projects approved earlier for JNU are Prof. Li Minghuan of the College of International Relations and Professors Guoyuan and Zhong Ruidong of the College of Liberal Arts.

The major projects of the National Social Science Fund are the most advanced and influential scientific research projects in social science in China. The projects' mission is to launch a series of valuable and profound research results, mainly including major projects of the year and special major projects the major commissioned projects, according to national decision-making at the macro level and strategic needs at the national level.
