Jinan University held an appointment ceremony for guest professor Zhong Cixian and the donation signing ceremony of the Zhong Chen Yulan Fund on Oct. 26. Prof. Zhong and his wife, Xia Xiaoluan, donated ¥1 million to JNU to set up an endowment, the Zhong Chen Yulan Fund, in the name of Prof. Zhong’s mother, a JNU alumna. The fund aims to provide a platform for JNU's postgraduate students in photonics and photonics engineering to enhance academic exchanges with the Institute of Nanophotonics, the College of Science and Engineering, and the Institute of Photonics Technology. The fund also supports research and development in photonics and photonics engineering, and nurtures talents in this field by stimulating innovation and improving academic capacity.

Zhong Cixian said that while he was born in the United States and has lived overseas for decades, he has always cared about education and talent cultivation in China. Since  his mother is a JNU alumna, giving him a special attachment to JNU, he said he hoped the fund would contribute to the university’s development of disciplines and education.
