A four-member delegation from the University Of East Anglia (UEA) in the United Kingdom visited JNU on Oct. 25. The delegation, headed by Philip Gilmartin, vice president of UEA, met with JNU Vice President Hong An. The two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly cultivate Ph.D. students, first environmental sciences majors and later majors in life sciences and medical sciences.
During the meeting, UEA and JNU representatives decided to adopt a dual-mentor system to operate Ph.D. programs and discussed how to help mentors find the right Ph.D. students. Workshops and bilateral seminars will be held to create more chances for scholars at the two universities to communicate and cooperate on academic research and cultivating students.
UEA and JNU also talked in depth about the mode of cooperation, number of students enrolled and fees for the joint Ph.D. cultivation program. They agreed to assign relevant schools to discuss the details after the meeting.
