The release ceremony of the Great Dictionary of Chinese Dialectology, the major achievement of JNU's National Social Science Fund major project "Theoretical Research and Digitization of Chinese Dialects Dictionary Compilation," was held in Guangzhou on Sept. 26. Wang Xiao, secretary of the Guangdong Social Science Association; JNU Vice President Rao Min; and Liu Danqing, president of the Chinese Dialect Society, attended the ceremony. More than 80 people, including famous scholars of Chinese dialects from various regions, major media directors and journalists from various provinces and cities, also took part in the ceremony.

The dictionary, a significant achievement supported by the National Publishing Fund, is a comprehensive compilation of Chinese dialects and dialectology edited by two leading figures, Prof. Zhan Bohui of JNU and Prof. Zhang Zhenxing of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The masterpiece, with 4 million words in two volumes, has completed the full process of design, compilation, validation, printing and publishing based on four years' work by hundreds of scholars from three generations.
