Prof. Deng Shaogen of JNU's School of Journalism and Communication won the Youth Award of Wu Yuzhang Humanities Social Science at the award ceremony in the 7th Wu Yuzhang Humanities Social Science Awards, which is also the ceremony for the 6th Lifetime Achievement Award of Wu Yuzhang Humanities Social Science. Ma Kai, vice president of the State Council and director of the Wu Yuzhang Fund Committee, presented the award to winners on Sept. 28 at Renmin University of China.

Deng's award-winning book "The Hardships of Journalism in China: The Journalism Society of Peking University," was published by Tsinghua University Press. It thoroughly deals with the starting point of China's journalism and discipline construction. The development process of the Journalism Society of Peking University appropriately evaluated the Society's historical status and role as well as its social influence, pushing study of the Society to a higher level.
In 1983, Renmin University established the Wu Yuzhang Award to commemorate Wu, its first president, a proletarian revolutionary, educator, historian and linguist, who died in 1966. This award, given every five years, honors outstanding achievers in the humanities and social science who have exerted a major impact on China. It is one of the NGO awards with a long history and profound influence in the field.
