(Zhang Yaohui, Dean of JNU’s Entrepreneurship Institute)
Foreword: Good teachers must first have correct values. We want to cultivate talents who can really contribute to society. Therefore, teaching college students by principles is more important than by words.
In the aspect of education, Zhang Yaohui has great ambition. As the dean of JNU’s Entrepreneurship Institute, he often encourages students to innovate in the spirit of “liberating all mankind.” (Such liberation, he says, means emancipating productive forces and creating a new life style.) He also urges them to persist with the attitude of “convincing people by reasoning” and realize the value of life through creating wealth. These three principals have become his personal brands.
“What kind of innovation is meaningful?” he asked. “In my opinion, innovation to liberate all mankind and explore some new ways of life and work can be called meaningful.” He believes human kindness and responsibility are the starting points of innovation. Nowadays, he says, it is most important to gradually establish the entrepreneurial university pattern, which aims to cultivate a good educational basis for innovation and entrepreneurship. He says the Entrepreneurship Institute is a breakthrough in solving this problem and hopes domestic universities can exploit a broader educational path.
“Good teachers must first have correct values,” Zhang says. “We want to cultivate talents who can really contribute to society. Therefore, teaching college students by principles is more important than by words.”
