In the National Natural Science Foundation's 2017 appraisal results, published Aug.18, JNU was approved for 220 funded projects totaling 87.68 million Yuan, ranking 32nd in the nation. And 77 more projects were approved than last year, compared with the same period last year. (Some key projects and other projects have not yet been published.) JNU ranked 73rd in National Natural Science Foundation Projects in 2015 and 53rd in 2016. Among the approved projects, the university received five landmark projects: one key project and four Outstanding Young Science Foundation projects.
According to statistics, besides rapid growth in terms of project approval rate, JNU's results this year are as follows:
* JNU's four Outstanding Young Science Foundation projects ranked second in Guangdong province.
* Young Science Foundation projects increased exponentially.
* JNU project approval percent, with a total of 87 projects and 124 Youth Funds, rose by 82.35% over the same period last year.
* Established disciplines improved steadily, and rising subjects improved vigorously.
JNU life science has a powerful return of project approvals. Medicine, management, earth science and other established disciplines improved steadily, and chemistry, engineering and material science, information and other rising subjects experienced a sharp rise over last year. The project held by Prof. Li Dan from the College of Chemistry and Materials Science has been funded as key project in the field of chemistry study.
* Post-doctoral scientific research rose sharply, with its funding rate up to 41.88%.
JNU's post-doctoral group declared 117 projects, nearly triple the number in 2016; 49 projects were approved, with the funding rate up to 41.88% -- nearly double the national average funding rate of 21.09%.
