The ceremony appointing Prof. Sun Xueliang as chair professor at Jinan University and his academic seminar were held by College of Science and Engineering on June 21. Dr. Chen Zhenqiang, dean of the College of Science and Engineering, officiated at the ceremony, which was attended by around 80 JNU leaders, teachers, and students from Jinan University and South China University of Technology.

During the ceremony, Chen briefly introduced Sun, a fellow of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada, a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Canada Research Chair in nanotechnology and clean energy, and a tenured professor at the University of Western Ontario. As a renowned researcher in materials science, Sun excels in his main research area, the application of nano-energy structural material in energy storage and transformation, as well as his study in fuel cell and lithium-ion battery. Chen also said Sun's joining JNU "will be a great support and impetus for the development of physical science and our college."

Sun paid high compliments to JNU's development, especially its achievements in introducing talents. He said he was glad to participate in JNU's construction as a high-level university and its Engineering Revitalization Project.

After the ceremony, Sun gave an academic report on "Developing New Nanotechnology in Energy Conversion and Storage." Focusing mainly on the latest international research on application of nanotechnology in energy storage components, he shared the excellent academic research results abroad with participants present.
