The 18th China Unicom Cup the festival. Science and Technology Festival began on May 27 on Panyu campus. It explored the theme "co-creation, sharing and mutually benefiting" through dozens of events, including contests, lectures, demonstrations and workshops.

In one demonstration, more than 30 JNU teams showcased their work in the Challenge Cup College Students' Academic Science and Technology Works Contest, using videos, display boards and objects.

The university featured workshops to observe the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Hong Kong to China and to introduce the One Belt and One Road initiative, aiming to foster students’ academic quality.

At the opening ceremony, Shi Hanji, president of Hon Wing Book Co. Ltd. and a JNU board member, donated 1 million yuan in awards to JNU researchers and students for their start-up programs in competitions including the Challenge Cup and the China Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. JNU Vice President Song Xianzhong accepted the donation on behalf the university and gave Shi a donation certificate.

Also attending the ceremony were JNU Vice President and Rao Min; Liu Ziying, Shi Hanji's mother and widow of Shi Jingyi, former JNU board member and father of Shi Hanji; and Ou Ya, deputy manager of China Unicom in Guangzhou.
