Krzysztof Piątkowski, deputy mayor of Lodz, Poland, and Joanna Skoczek, Poland's consul general in Guangzhou, led a delegation from universities in Lodz to JNU on May 16, meeting with JNU Party Secretary Lin Ruopeng and representatives of relevant departments. The delegation included presidents, global affairs representatives and deans of the University of Lodz, Lodz University of Technology, the University of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the University of Arts.
Lin introduced Jinan University and reviewed the friendly exchanges over nearly 20 years between JNU and sister schools in Poland. "The Lodz deputy mayor's visit to Guangzhzou shows that the city government attaches great importance to higher education," Lin said. "JNU also values cooperation with the universities in Poland. JNU President Hu Jun led a delegation that visited three countries in Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland, and paid a special visit to Lodz in April 2017. The return visit of the Lodz deputy mayor will enhance the mutual understanding of the two sides and lay the foundation for further cooperation."
Piątkowski, Skoczek and Prof. Jolanta Rudzka-Habisiak, spokeswoman for the university delegation, gave a brief introduction to Lodz and universities there. Lodz, the second-largest Polish city, after Warsaw, is a modern city but keeps traditional culture alive. It brings together Polish, German, Jewish and Russian communities and has an impressively diverse cultural heritage. Rich in educational resources, Lodz is a thriving center of academic life in Poland. Currently Lodz hosts 100,000 students at 25 universities. Piątkowski, in charge of education and culture for the city, said he hoped to promote cooperation between universities in Lodz and China.
