He leads a scientific team that studies key technologies to produce bio-fuel from microalgae and has received a national subsidy of 25 million yuan.
Professors Liao Huaxin, Ying Zhinan and Liu Fengyong, also from the College of Life Science and Technology and Prof Ma Jianfengnan from the College of Information Science and Technology, have received a subsidy of 80 million yuan under the Pearl River Talent Plan, which aims to introduce more talents into Guangzhou. Liao leads the Research Team of the Construction and Application of Humanized Antibody New Drug. Ying leads the Biomedical Transformation Research Team. Liu is the chief of the Nucleic Acid of New Antiviral Research Team, and Ma heads the Cloud Computing Safety Insurance Team.
A research team exploring new drugs at Jinan University has had projects approved under the national major projects in the 12th Five-Year Plan; for improvement of some drugs, it has received project funding of over 40 million yuan. In 2013 the team earned six major science and technical projects under Guangdong New Drugs Creation and Research Plan, and 66 percent of their projects were approved.
In 2015 Jinan University received over 464 million yuan in project funds for over 100 projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation. Jinan University has been receiving basic science foundation of over 24 million yuan a year. For the current five years, Jinan University has been undertaking provincial and national projects with many breakthroughs.
Prof. Ye Wencai's project on the systematic research and application of the active ingredient of a traditional Chinese medicine in 2014, and Prof. Li Wei's project on key technology development and integration of steel materials, both won first prize in the Guangdong Science Technology Awards. In 2015, Li's research results won second prize in the National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology.
JNU has made progress on high-level university construction by focusing on construction of high-level teaching staffs.
