Peng Yudian, deputy mayor of the Qingyuan Municipal Government, and Wang Boguang, executive vice dean of the Jinan University Institute for Environmental and Climate Research, signed an agreement on cooperation in environmental protection on April 27. The agreement provides a framework under which the Qingyuan Government and JNU could collaborate on air pollution prevention with scientific and technical support.

At the signing ceremony at Jinan University were Guo Feng, secretary of the CPC Qingyuan Municipal Committee; JNU President Hu Jun; Liu Shaochen, academician of the JNU Institute for Environmental and Climate Research; and Zhong Liuju, vice dean of the JNU Institute for Environmental and Climate Research.
Hu introduced the JNU Institute for Environmental and Climate Research's development in the last year and its advantages. "The Qingyuan Government is now facing management and technical challenges in making efforts to prevent air pollution and improve air quality," Hu said. "Under the agreement, JNU will input more scientific research sources to support the work of the Qingyuan Government. The Institute for Environmental and Climate Research shoulders the responsibility for collaborating with the government on behalf of JNU and furthers their cooperation in other aspects."
Guo gave a comprehensive introduction to the current situation, new features and pressures of Qingyuan City's atmospheric environmental protection, as well as goals, strategies, content, technology needs and prospects of the cooperation with JNU. The Qingyuan Government funded the first 2.1 million yuan and appointed JNU to undertake programs including the Dynamic Assessment and Decision Support of the Qingyuan City Air Pollution Prevention and the Optimization and Evaluation of the Qingyuan City Air Quality Monitoring Network.
