JNU's School of Humanities invited the China National Peking Opera Company to perform "The Lucky Purse," the representative show of Cheng Yanqiu's singing style, on Zhuhai campus on March 31. The performance was part of "Exploring Peking Opera," the teaching investigation series of the Humanistic Opera Festival, held in conjunction with the company’s visit to Zhuhai. Students from Hong Kong and Macao saw the performance, then went backstage to meet with the performers and learn more about Peking opera.

"The greatness of Peking opera lies not only in the thoughts it conveys, but also in every stage property," said one of the company’s artists while showing the students around backstage. He also showed some important stage properties in the performance, including the lucky purse, a bridal sedan chair, a yellow damask car flag symbolizing a saddle, and a paddle representing a boat.
The School of Humanities has been carrying out cultural experiences of all kinds since September 2016 to develop overseas students' humanistic qualities and recognition of Chinese cultural identity. "We should learn about the culture of the Chinese nation," said Zhu Ying, one of the school's counselors. "As the saying goes, the more national, the more global."
