A delegation from the University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) in Malaysia visited JNU on April 19 to discuss student exchange and scientific research cooperation.
The delegation consisted of Huang Shunge, second finance minister of Sarawak state of Malaysia and chairman of the board of directors of the university; Liu Naihao, president of the UCTS Alumni Association for Malaysians who studied in China; and Adu Hajin, president of the university. On behalf of JNU, a warm welcome was extended by President Hu Jun and representatives of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, the International School, the Graduate School, the External Liaison Office, the Admissions Office and other institutions.

The delegation introduced Sarawak state and UCTS, stressing its strengths and expressing their sincere wish it would start a student exchange project and scientific research cooperation with JNU. The JNU representatives then mentioned that the International School had established some majors taught in English and advised starting a joint training project for postgraduates and doctorial candidates at both universities. A preliminary cooperation intention was reached on student exchange. The admitting standard, awarding of degrees and other details were further discussed.

UCTS, founded by the Sarawak government on April 1, 2013, focuses on science and technology. It is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) university in Malaysia. It has schools of Foundation Studies, Business and Management, Engineering and Technology, Built Environment, and Computing. At present, overseas Chinese students make up 75 percent of the student body.
