JNU President Hu Jun led a delegation to Ming Chuan University (MCU) in Taiwan for its 60th-anniversary celebration on March 23. The next day, the delegation was invited to participate in the Third Forum for Cross-Strait Presidents and Heads of Universities and visited National Chengchi University in Taiwan. The delegation visited Taiwan universities to seek exchanges and cooperation on the education about innovation and business startups, as well as changes in college education under the new situation of internet technology.

The delegation also visited National Chengchi University (NCCU), where it was received by Vice President Chen Shuheng. The two sides mainly discussed the training of innovative talents who can start up businesses, new teaching methods and disciplinary planning. After the meeting, the delegation visited NCCU’s Center for Promoting Research and Innovation, where it was introduced to the center building and its operation. President Hu highly praised the achievements the center has made and expressed his hope that JNU could learn from the center’s successes in cultivating innovative business startups.

On March 24, the delegation attended the Cross-Strait Forum on the topic of how college education develops to new forms of interaction and innovation with the help with the Internet. President Hu gave a report titled The Prospect of the Future’s Universities: The Internet and Higher Education. College education has been greatly reformed in many ways because of internet technology, he said. At the macro level, the latter has promoted the popularity of higher education; at the medium level, the scientization of universities'running; and at the micro level, the self-directed learning of the students. Based on these reforms, President Hu suggested establishing a certification system based on learning outcomes, forming an information platform of big data and specialized personnel, and building a mixed teaching mode both online and off.

MCU was the first university in Asia accredited by the American Middle States Commission on Higher Education, upholding the mission statement that all students are our own children. NCCU is a comprehensive university famous for its humanities and social sciences.
