Kazuyuki Motohashi, a professor at the University of Tokyo, lectured on How Regional Institutions Matter to High-Tech Startups in the International Business School on the Zhuhai Campus on March 24.
Motohashi explored the influences of regional institutions on new high-tech products by comparing the Tsinghua University Science Park in Beijing with the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen from the perspectives of the source of innovation, connection to the university and innovation output. During the Q&A session, he patiently shared his insights into issues raised by the audience.
More than 20 faculty members and students attended the lecture, hosted by Qian Gangyi, director of the school's exchange center.

Motohashi is a professor in the Department of Technology Management for Innovation in the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo; a visiting professor at JNU; and an editor of Research Policy, a leading international journal in innovation studies. In the last 10 years, he has held positions in institutions including the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. His research interests include technological innovation and management, Asian technological innovation systems and technological innovation strategy. He has published papers on these issues in journals including Research Policy, the International Journal of Technology Transfer and Telecommunication Policy.
