JNU’s College of Chinese Language and Culture signed a cooperation agreement on part-time postgraduate program with the Japan Chiyoda Education Group in Tokyo on March 25.

As the paramount school for overseas Chinese students, the college sets up programs in Chinese language education and preparatory education for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as international students. The Japan Chiyoda Education Group, recognized by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education, offers multiple training courses. JNU and Chiyoda Education Group will cooperate on a part-time two-year master’s degree program in international Chinese language education. The program consists primarily of self-study and short-term classes taught by teachers from the College of Chinese Language and Culture.

"There are more than 800,000 Chinese people in Japan, so the relevant education industry has massive market potential," said Chen Sanhu, Chinese consul in Japan, at the signing ceremony. He said the cooperation is mutually beneficial and hoped it could contribute to educational and cultural exchanges between China and Japan, as well as promotion of the splendid culture of China.

Shao Yi, dean of the College of Chinese Language and Culture, introduced the college’s bachelor's and master's degree programs, and its various training courses in many countries and regions. Last year, cooperation with the Japan Chiyoda Education Group opened classes for postgraduates majoring in teaching overseas Chinese and Chinese language. This year, a new two-year master’s program in international Chinese language education was established. Chen said he hoped to see more cooperation programs developed in the future.

Chen Xiujie, president of the Japan Chiyoda Education Group, said she hoped the cooperation would better help overseas Chinese in Japan, especially educators in Chinese language.
