JNU has received national funding for the second time since mid-August from the Natural Science Foundation of China for 11 applied research projects after appraisal results were published. Three were evaluated as strongly supported projects, three as mainly developed projects, two as projects supported by the Tianyuan Foundation (a national foundation recognizing achievements in mathematics), two as international cooperation and exchange projects, and one as project in theoretical physics.
In 2016, JNU applied for funding for 603 research projects, 156 of which were approved and won 76 million yuan from the foundation, a 10.28% increase over 2015. Total funding is estimated at up to 90 million yuan this year, raising JNU from 73rd to the 53rd nationwide.
