A concert of original symphonic divertimenti on the theme of "The Silk Road Recorded with Guangdong Folk Music" was given at JNU on Nov.12 as one of the events commemorating JNU's 110th anniversary. Performed by the Guangdong National Orchestra, the concert was a feast of Guangdong folk and exotic culture presented by Guangdong Cultural Bureau.

Lin Rupeng, secretary of the JNU Party Committee and an official in the Guangdong Cultural Bureau, and Han Angui, secretary of the Party Committee at Guangdong Vocational School of Dance and Drama, attended, along with 1,700 students and teachers. The performance drew rapturous applause several times and prompted interaction between audience and performers.
The program was organized by Guangdong National Orchestra, directed by the Publicity Department of the Party Committee and the Guangdong Cultural Bureau, and supervised by Zhao Jiping, honorary president of the Chinese Musicians Association. It is an orchestral work consisting of seven sections: Setting Sail, Offering a Sacrifice to the Sea, Sea Voyage, Foreign Lands, Homesickness, Coming Home and New Dream. In cyclical form, it expressed the cultural and spiritual connotation of the Maritime Silk Road and the grand momentum of the orchestra by making use of national musical instruments. It conveyed traditional culture, the spirit of the times and the latest Guangdong folk music by combining Lingnan musical culture with oceanic culture.
