President Hu Jun was invited by Ecuador and Chile, and led a delegation to visit the two countries from June 30 to July 7th, 2014,signing 7 cooperative agreements with University of Cuenca and University of Amazon in Ecuador , University of Chile, University of Central Chile, and University of Frontier in Chile, as well as Ecuador Oriental Group. President Hu also met with Chinese ambassador to Chile and Ecuador, Consul General of Chinese Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador, as well as Vice Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Vice Minister of Ministry of Education in Ecuador. In addition, President Hu paid a visit to the teachers, who were dispatched to University of Cuenca to teach Chinese Medicine and Massage.
The main purpose of this visit is to expand JNU’s Chinese language education and Chinese language international education in South America, and to make use of the locally abundant resources of medicinal plants, so as to give full play to the advantage of our scientific research, and carry out cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine. In Ecuador, President Hu Jun signed "Agreement on Cooperation in Overseas Chinese Education and Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages", and "Cooperation Framework Agreement on Academic Activities Pertaining to the Field of Medicine and Medicinal Plants and Research " with President of University of Cuenca, and signed with President of University of Amazon "Agreement on Establishing University Research Base of Medicinal Plant Resources." Prof. Ye Wencai, Dean of PharmacyCollege and Ecuador Oriental Group signed "Agreement on Joint Development of Medicinal Plants Borojo". In Chile, President Hu Jun signed intercollegiate cooperation framework agreement with University of Central and University of Frontier after extensive discussion. Prof. Guo Xi, Dean of College of Chinese Language and Culture at JNU and Dean of Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at University of Chile signed the "Agreement on Cooperation in Overseas Chinese Education and Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages ".
The delegation was warmly welcomed during the visit and universities in the two South American countries showed great enthusiasm. In addition to the signing of the agreements, some universities showed a keen interest in cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine massage and acupuncture, and overseas Chinese research. Because the delegation’s stay in both countries was short, Ecuador’s University of Amazon and Chile’s University of Frontier came all the way to the delegation’s hotel, held talks and signed agreements at night. The visit has been attached great importance to by the relevant government departments of the host countries, also supported by the Chinese embassies and consulates abroad.
The delegation includes Dean of College of Chinese Language and Culture, Dean of College of Pharmacy and Director of International Affairs Office of JNU.
President Hu Jun will soon preside over a coordination meeting to ensure that substantive projects can be carried out effectively.
