Swimming in the Sea of Books--The Chinese Culture Festival
On November 17th, 2012, the Chinese Culture Festival, which focused on books, was successfully held by the Student Union of Jinan University on the Jianyang Basketball Court. During the day, each league chose a book to be their theme. As a team, the Student Union of the International School, on behalf of the whole International School, competed in the event with a topic of Xi Shuo Xin Yu.
Around six o’clock in the morning, the leaders of the Department of Student Welfare and Livelihoods gathered their members in order to prepare for the event and decorate their booth. About two hours later, flat pieces of straw, which were plastered with riddles, were hanging on the walls and everything was ready. The leader was pleased when she inspected the well-decorated stall.
Red was regarded as the major color for the booth. As a consequence, the stall was full of a joyful atmosphere. What’s more, some games such as shooting and doing Crosswords, which were especially designed for visitors, were available for everyone.
At 10:00 a.m., the Chinese Cultural Festival began with appealing performances which attracted lots of passers-by to gather around. Some important leaders of our school were invited to give speeches to support this activity. After that, students rushed into the booths, playing games and enjoying themselves. The games of the International School seemed to be especially popular with festival-goers. Among them, the game named Shooting was the most popular. Everyone who wanted to join the game had to wait in a long line.
In the afternoon, it was time for the most famous part of the activity—the food show. Different kinds of delicious food featuring local customs were delivered from different areas. Festival-goers could use the tickets which they won from playing games to buy the delicious food.
There is no doubt that all participants broadened their horizons through the interesting games. Furthermore, we have had a new look at Chinese culture.
