Prof. Liu Renhuai gives speech on Jinan Forum

Prof. Liu Renhuai, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering gave a speech on the Jinan Forum 145^th Session.

In his speech, Prof Liu shared with the students his experience and effort in studies and in researches.

He said that two things: leadership and solid foundation for academic studies were what he learned and achieved in university and later helped him established a successful career. Also, he was lucky enough to meet a good teacher, Ye Kaiyuan the favorite puil of Qian Weichang , who was employed by Lanzhou University and became the tutor of Prof. Liu Renhuai.

Prof. Liu said that the academic training he received during his four years in university opened the door of success for him. He was selected to the satellite trial-production group when he was still a freshman. He also participated in researches in his spare time, such as the design of wind tunnel, paper rockets, which were cutting-edge researches at that time. In 1959, Professor Ye Kaiyuan was employed by Lanzhou University and instituted a new program, mechanics, which was established on the basis of the mathematic program, that was then divided by Professor Ye into mathematics and mechanics. Professor Liu Renhuai was then grouped into the mechanics class and became one of the first students that studied mechanics in Lanzhou University.
