Academic lecture of Department of Physics, College Science & Engineering (No.34)

Academic lecture of Department of Physics, College Science & Engineering (No.34)
Topic: The Uniqueness Theorem and its Application
Lecture | May 10, 2018 | 19:00 | Room A206, Fuli Building
Speaker: Liang Canbin, Beijing Normal University

Abstract:
In general physics or middle school physics, it is always concerned with the problem of conductor static balance, such as electrostatic induction and shielding. On the one hand, the discussion of electrostatics involves almost all such problems so it is a common problem; on the other hand, it is often difficult to solve such problems (even only to make certain qualitative conclusions), and therefore it is a very difficult problem. The uniqueness theorem of static electricity is a powerful weapon to tackle such problem. Unfortunately, both middle school physics and ordinary physics ignore the importance of this theory and most people don't know how to use it although they have learned on electrodynamics course which puts little emphasis on its application. This lecture will prove this theorem in a simple way, and then give some examples to illustrate its application. Even those teachers who have taught electromagnetism for many years do not know that there is such an ingenious problem solving method.

About Liang Canbin
Prof. Liang Canbin was born in Zhongshan County, Guangdong Province in January, 1938 and moved to Macao with his parents four months later. He studied in Guangdong Guangya High School from 1952 to 1955. In 1955, he was admitted to the Department of Physics, Beijing Normal University. Graduated in 1959, he stayed in the Department of Physics, Beijing Normal University as a teacher. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago in the United States from 1981 to 1983. After returning to China, he devoted to basic courses, professional courses and scientific research. Since 1986, he served as professor and then a Ph.D. Supervisor. After his retirement in 1999, he was invited to give lectures in Beijing Normal University, Tsinghua University, school of Mathematical sciences and Graduate School of University of Chinese Academy of Science and other universities and high schools.

He has written 10 books, published 54 research papers and 15 teaching and research papers. His main awards include the first national special award of excellent teaching achievement (1989), first Prize of teacher award of Zeng Xianzi Education Foundation (1993), and the special award for excellent teachers of Baosteel Education Foundation (2000).
