The Law Department was first established in 1927 when the National Jinan University was founde in Shanghai.In 1930,it officially became the Law School and was one of the first five schools of Jinan University,as well as one of the first law schools in China.In 2001,the Law School was reestablished.Meanwhile,Jinan University Intellectual Property School (IP School) was founded in 2004 and was the first such school in South China.In 2011,the Law School and the IP Schoolofficially combined into the JNU Law School/IP School.Considering the international diversity of the student body,the Law School/IP School has a mission to promote Chinese cultural law and a bilingual teaching system:it is one of the first law schools to publish an English version of a Chinese law  textbook,and to have a National Bilingual Model Course in Guangdong.The Law School/IP School has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Maastricht University Law School (Netherlands) to implement substantial collaboration in research,teaching and joint training of students. Meanwhile, the Law School/IP School and the University of Birmingham (UK) are jointly developing a master's degree program in international business law.Recently,the Law School/IP School has retained dozens of distinguished international legal scholars as adjunct professors,and hosted more than 20 lectures by esteemed legal scholars,including Gary Locke,former U.S. Ambassador to China;Prof.Laurence Lessig from Harvard Law School.
