College of Liberal Arts
Established in 1929, the College of Liberal Arts is one of the oldest colleges in the university. With its humanistic atmosphere and based on its Year-round Chinese culture and literature studies, the college has cultivated generations of outstanding humanities graduates and plays a significant role in Jinan University's history. Many famous and important names are linked with the history of the College of Liberal Arts, including 13 well-known Chinese scholars, such as Chen Zhongfan and Zheng Zhenduo, former dean of the college.
The College of Liberal Arts currently has one National Key Discipline (literature and art studies) and four Provincial Key Disciplines (literature and art studies, Chinese language and characters studies, specialized history, and Chinese ancient history). In discipline development, the college compares favorably with similar universities in China. In particular, disciplines such as literature and art studies; Chinese dialects studies; Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese literature; and Hong Kong and Macao studies have great influence in the academia in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The linguistics discipline is in the top 1% in the QS World University Ranking.
Attaching great importance to external cooperation and communication, the college is conducting overseas teaching in Japan, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
