Prof. Li Baojun's team from JNU's Institute of Nanophotonics has reported a breakthrough in research on cellular micro-robots. The team turned white blood cells into medical micro-robots, directing them to navigate in a zebrafish's body and perform multiple tasks at designated positions. The research results were published on July 13 in ACS Central Science, an international academic journal, as the cover of the current issue.
ACS Central Science announced to the international media that the research realized the optical manipulation of neutrophils in vivo for the first time. Subsequently, about 30 international institutions or media, including Science Daily, Science News, Science Magazine, Phys.org, Optics & Photonics News, SPIE/Optics.org and Yahoo News, reported or reprinted he news as The first time. More than 20 institutions or media in China, including Science and Technology Daily, China News, Guangming Net, Xinhua Net, Ifeng News, Time-Weekly, Global Technology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, reported or reprinted it as the first international case. Within days, the reports had more than 19 million page views and more than 9,100 online discussions.
Laser Focus World interviewed Li's team remotely. Reporters and a photography team from China News Service interviewed Li and his team members, Prof. Zheng Xianchuang and Associate Prof. Liu Xiaoshuai, on July 19.
