The finals of the first Zhuhai-Macau University Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, co-organized by JNU's International Business School and Ding-Chip Technologies Co., Ltd, was held on April 14. In an interview, the Juyingtong (Jingle Dog) Online Conference Voice Assistant startup team, one of the 10 teams participating, shared its entrepreneurial story full of surprise and challenges.

JNU's campus provides us with a favorable entrepreneurial environment free from competitive pressure from the outside, said Liu Haikun, a member of the 2015 electronic engineering class in the College of Information Science and Technology and leader of the Jingle Dog team. There are patient advisors, partners sharing the same goal, and plenty of time for thinking and creation here. Recalling the experiences of the last year, he described all this as unexpected but exciting.
Liu entered the entrepreneurship space by chance. The place is full of senior schoolmates who are doing startups, and some have already succeeded. It was these people's passion for entrepreneurship that touched Liu, making him feel it was possible to try it himself. They have more faith in themselves than others and they stick to the goal, Liu said. From then on, he started paying close attention in his life to find a chance to start a business.
Initially he wanted to build a platform to collect information on all kinds of events, providing convenience for users. He discussed the idea with Prof. Zhang Yaohui, president of JNU’s College of Entrepreneurship. Luckily, the two were on the same page. After detailed discussions, a preliminary start-up theory took form. Liu started building a team. After candidate interviews and through recommendations, he assembled a nine-member team from various majors and classes.
The Jingle Dog startup team has made great achievements over the last year: making the final 17 out of 107 in the Internet + Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition; winning first prize in the first Canton Enterprise-Customer Cup University/College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition; making the top 50 out of 718 in the Tianhe Youth Cup Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition; advancing to the final 10 in the Zhuhai-Macau Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition; and winning project approval in the 2017 Challenge Cup. All but the first two competitions are still in progress.

The team was most impressed by the Canton Cup competition. It signed up for the competition just for a try but was pleasantly surprised to win first place and receive a cash prize of 5,000 yuan. Later, team members were interviewed by TV stations and invited to the Hong Kong Asian Financial Forum, where they gained a lot by communicating face to face with well-known corporate representatives.
Today, they have basically perfected Jingle Dog. First, it promotes and introduces lecture content in simple and concise language for the sponsor, enabling a wider potential audience to find the lecture and sign up. The project can also help the organizer plan a suitable site through pre-registration. Then the project allows participants to be recorded and guided to their seats with electronic check-in. Finally, it provides lectures about archival documents for the sponsor and related administrative departments. In the future the project also promises to expand activities from schools to businesses and the community.
For Liu, the biggest gain in starting a business is to find a goal-oriented and appropriate way that deserves my total commitment.
